Ledgard Bridge to the rescue.

Lyell and Geoff did their good deed for the day when two brand new boats from another nearby builder lost power, finding themselves adrift they managed to get a line on to the old bridge pier before the were swept onto the weir.
Seeing their predicament Lyell took out Betty to offer assistance the two larger boats were lashed to each side of Betty and she towed them back up the river about a mile to their mooring.

On a fast flowing river recently in flood this displays the worth of the Shire 45 engine Betty is fitted with.

The recent floods were the cause of a little excitement and loss of production!

Look no weir!

James Wade the sign painter wishes he had come on his boat instead. Well at least he made it onto the front page of the local paper!

Never underestimate the power of the river!

Betty going in. (Little)

Kittle going in. (Large)

Friday 23/07/04, we had the little and large show today when we crained in two boats Kittle and Betty. (And for once it didn’t rain.)
Kittle is a 56’ x 10’ barge style with wheel house it was crained unfitted and with out ballast to keep the weight down, but still weighed in at 15 tons. She will be fitted out on the water and should be complete in around six weeks.
Betty is a 51’ modified trad style narrowboat. While maintaining the lines of a trad style, her stern is profiled to give a more generous rear deck allowing two people to sit in comfort. (Keep an eye out for this boat, who says you can’t get a car paint finish on a boat?)

Size matters! 57’x12’6” with a distinct hint of Dutch barge.

And now for something completely different.

July 04 two new builds have started a 57’ x 12’6” barge style and something a bit more unusual a 55’ narrow barge style inspection launch, this is really going to be something different!

26/05/04 Something big is growing in the corner of the workshop and it will be coming out soon!

2/05/04 Ja’i Une Vie (I Have A Life) was completed and left for her home mooring in Skipton. Her modern interior worked out very well giving a much greater feeling of space than expected on a 50’ by 10’ boat. Click here to take a look at the Broad Interior Fit Out page.

Friday the 5th of Mach “Jaybee” took to the air and the finally to the water, she is a 57’ barge style narrow boat. Externally she is a sister boat to “Bendigo” but features an hydraulic drive system and a more traditional fit out.
